BRIEF BACKGROUND

Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL), was established on September 12, 2011, as a joint venture of Government of Odisha and Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) in recognition of the Government’s vision to play a significant and catalytic role in creating, nurturing and developing knowledge-led economy and knowledge-based communities in all the urban, rural and tribal regions of the State of Odisha. 

OKCL commenced its business operations in September, 2012 over the entire State of Odisha and it has emerged as a high-tech and high-touch initiative focused on design, development and delivery of innovative e-Learning, e-Governance, and e-Empowerment technologies, solutions and services to its ever-growing base of millions of customers in public at large, educational institution, Government and Communities.

COMPOSITION OF BOARD AND CONTROL

Presently, OKCL is led under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Electronics & Information Technology Department, Government of Odisha, alongwith Secretary, School & Mass Education Department representing Government of Odisha as Nominee Director on the Board of the company.  Managing Director and Joint Managing Director of MKCL as Board members representing promoter company, MKCL.  Managing Director is empowered to drive the company with autonomy as a self sustaining organisation under the support and guidance of the Chairman and Board members.

OKCL’s SHAREHOLDING AND OWNERSHIP

The company was promoted by the Government of Odisha holding 50% shares in the company, and Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (www.mkcl.org) holding the other 50%, with a vision to forge a collaborative endeavour with MKCL to launch and implement a Mass IT Literacy Movement modelled on the successful pattern of MKCL by seeking necessary support of MKCL by avoiding the expense of time and resources in reinventing the essentials.

OKCL PRODUCTS & PROJECTS 

• OS-CIT (Odisha State – Certificate of Information Technology) is the flagship IT literacy course of OKCL, recognised as de-facto IT Literacy course of Government of Odisha, offered by OKCL, and proficiency test and certification done by Odisha State Open University (OSOU)
• OKCL has implemented the e-Vidyalaya project under ICT@Schools scheme, which provides easy access of technology designed to help students in 4000 Government and Government aided high schools to learn beyond regular classroom studies.
• OKCL offers a range of vocational courses in eLearning mode to enable seamless learning and skilling of the youth. 
• It also offers a Mastering Track which helps in preparation for various competitive examinations with the help of online evaluation & analysis tools. 

In addition, OKCL has implemented the e-Vidyalaya project under ICT@Schools scheme, which provides easy access of technology designed to help students in 4000 Government and Government aided high schools to learn beyond regular classroom studies. 

OKCL’S ACHIEVEMENTS

 OKCL’s statewide achievements are simply vast with the following to name a few: 

• State wide network of 350+ Authorized Learning Centres (ALCs) under private-public-partnership with local IT entrepreneurs with presence in all the districts of Odisha.  
• Reached masses through its IT Literacy Program Odisha State – Certificate in Information Technology (OS-CIT) and improved access to high quality computer education at affordable cost.
